Flawed Spark
Dermott
“Flawed Spark” by Dermott is a track about a Traiv attempting to describe environmental incompatibility using emotional language he only partially understands. The disconnect comes from leaving Takato — a place built around the assumptions, pacing, and structure Traiv naturally function within — and existing inside the chaotic social density of Drakkesburg instead.
The song’s wording reflects that mismatch. Phrases like “outcast,” “trying to stay sane,” and “flawed spark” sound emotionally dramatic on the surface, but the lyrics read more like a mechanical being imitating metaphor without fully grasping the emotional weight behind the phrases. “Flawed spark” is essentially Dermott describing himself as operating outside his intended conditions, like a system running with unstable current or improper calibration. He understands something is functionally wrong with the environment-to-self relationship, but he filters it through borrowed social language.
The empowerment in the track comes from refusal to self-modify. Dermott recognizes that other people in Drakkesburg adapt socially through performance, emotional signalling, and fluid identity presentation — things he fundamentally struggles to interpret or reproduce correctly. Instead of masking it, he continues functioning as himself. The song ends up carrying an awkward but sincere tone: not loneliness in an emotional sense, but a Traiv trying to explain persistent environmental misalignment through metaphors he isn't able to use properly.
