Journal
I was with some friends out in the woods. One of them wanted to have a real party for their birthday. I know we had alcohol and pot. There was probably other stuff but I didn't use it so I don't remember. One of the guys had shrooms and talked me into trying it. It apparently fucked me up pretty bad. I woke up on the sandy shore of a lake. I don't think there were any lakes where I'm from. I can't remember where I'm from so there could have been lakes. Who knows. This lake is really weird. Off in the distance there is an invisible wall or something. Everything just stops there, nothing beyond the wall. I looked around, trying to figure out which way to go. There were no footprints or anything. Not even a trail to follow out of the woods. I picked a direction and wandered for a while. I had wandered aimlessly through bushes and briers for about 20 minutes. I heard limbs snapping and something creeping through a bush nearby. I tried to quietly sneak over to check it out but I'm not very good at sneaking. I tripped over a root and landed in the bush, right at someone's feet. I quickly stood up.
"Have you seen a baseball? I can't find it anywhere." she asked with a look of annoyance.
"No. I must have had too much to drink last night. I'm lost." I said as I brushed dirt and leaves off myself.
"The park is just right there." she laughed as she went back to her search.
"What park? Where are we?"
"I don't know, City park I guess. I don't pay attention to names of places." she said trying to hide her own confusion.
I walked past her toward the park. Something sparkled and caught my attention.
"What the fuck?!" I said a little to loud as I looked up.
"Did you find it?" the girl yelled.
"Maybe."
She trotted up next to me still looking on the ground.
"Is that your ball?" I asked as I pointed up to a massive web with a spot that looks like it could have been a baseball.
"Oh my god... RUN!" she yelled as she took off.
'Damn girls and their fear of spiders.' I thought as I took a step closer to the web.
I could feel something watching me. I looked further up the tree above the web. The was a large black shape. Like a shadow but it had glowing green eyes. I ran out of the trees and right through half of the park. I stopped near the restrooms and sat down. I felt to dizzy to keep running.
"Hey. Are you ok?" said a familiar voice. I looked up to see the girl that was in the woods and two other people. The girl that was in the woods is kind of short. She has shoulder length, straight black hair and hazel eyes. She's dressed in black. The girl with her is the tallest of them. She's also dressed in black. She has short blonde hair and piercing green eyes. She's pretty and slightly intimidating. The guy is just a little shorter than the tall girl. He's not fully dressed in black. He's wearing dark gray cargo pants and a black sweater. He has long black dreads, held back with a bandanna and dark brown eyes.
"I saw something. What the hell kind of web was that?" I asked as I staggered to my feet.
"We don't know what they are but everyone calls them phantoms. There aren't supposed to be any in town. We're going to the bar. Do you want to come with us?"
The others turned and walked away.
"I don't know you. I don't know where I am."
"Oh right." she laughed "My name is Sarah Richardson. That is Kyrin and Ray. We're in Drakkesburg. We're going to meet some friends at Megathirio... Dumb name I know but the Flaming Tortuga is closed for repairs right now." She started to walk away. She glanced back in my direction, sighed and grabbed my hand to pull me along.
"Well what's your name?"
She loosened her grip and I slipped my hand away from her.
"Jordan Reese. Whe.."
"Oh my god my name is so plain compared to everyone else. Yours just sounds like someone that would grow up and be awesome in some way. Sorry.. Names fascinate me." she said with a nervous excitement.
"So do you talk to strangers just to amuse your self with names?"
"No! I'm just a friendly person that happens to like names."
We walked in silence a few blocks.
"There's the bar. Come on." she said as she dashed to the door.
I haven't seen anything I recognize. I've never heard of Drakkesburg. Where the hell am I? What happened last night?
